For nearly 50 years, the National Survey of Science and Mathematics Education (NSSME) has provided authoritative data about the  education system in the U.S. In 2018, the study added computer science and engineering and rebranded as the NSSME+. This periodic study, funded by the National Science Foundation, is conducted by Horizon Research, Inc. Results have been widely disseminated and used extensively by researchers and policymakers.
