Evelyn M. Gordon

Evelyn M. Gordon, Research Associate, received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics from Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY, and a Masters of Science degree in Mathematics and Doctoral degree in Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Prior to coming to HRI in 2009, Dr. Gordon taught mathematics at the high school and college levels for twelve years. Her high school level teaching in Chapel Hill, NC focused on mathematics instruction for at-risk students. Her college level teaching experience included mathematics content classes for elementary and secondary pre-service and in-service teachers, in both undergraduate and graduate programs. At HRI, Dr. Gordon worked on the Math and Science Partnership Knowledge Management and Dissemination project.

Dr. Gordon currently works on the evaluations of the Cases of Reasoning and Proving in Secondary Mathematics, Geometry Assessments for Secondary Teachers, Honing Diagnostic Practice, Leveraging Mathematically Significant Pedagogical Openings to build on Student Thinking, and Mathematical Discourse in Secondary Classrooms projects. She also serves on the research team for the Fostering Mathematics Success of English Language Learners project.
