2000 NSSME: Status of High School Chemistry Teaching

This report describes the status of high school chemistry instruction based on the responses of 506 chemistry teachers across the United States. 

This status report of high school chemistry teaching is organized into major topical areas:

  • Characteristics of the teaching force in the United States;

  • Professional development of teachers, both needs and participation;

  • Classes offered;

  • Instruction, in terms of objectives, time spent, and class activities; and

  • Resources available for instruction.
