This report describes novice and veteran science teachers in the United States, with particular emphasis on the similarities and differences between these two groups.
This report is divided into five main sections:
school contexts in which teachers worked;
characteristics of teachers themselves, including sex, race/ethnicity, age, and experience;
preparation for teaching science, including college degrees, science coursework, and professional development experiences;
teachers’ beliefs about teaching and learning and perceptions of preparedness to teach science; and
nature of instruction in teachers’ classrooms, including objectives for instruction, instructional strategies used, and availability of resources.
