Subject and Grade-Level Status Reports

This series of reports on the status of mathematics, science and computer science teaching is based on data from the 2018 NSSME+. Areas addressed include: characteristics of the teaching force, professional development of teachers, course offerings, instructional objectives and activities, instructional resources, and factors affecting instruction.

Equity Reports

These reports focus on the equity of students’ access to high-quality science and mathematics education. Although not designed primarily as an equity study, the 2018 NSSME+ provides data on some indicators of the extent to which students across the nation have equitable educational opportunities. To this end, data from the study were analyzed by four factors historically associated with differences in educational opportunities. 

Trend Reports

These reports focus on trends in science and mathematics education between 2012 and 2018 based on data from the NSSME. Areas addressed in the reports include: teacher backgrounds and beliefs, professional development, courses offered, instructional objectives and activities, instructional resources, and factors affecting instruction.

Novice Teacher Reports

These reports use data from the 2018 NSSME+ to describe similarities and differences between novice and veteran science and mathematics teachers in the United States. Areas addressed include school contexts, teacher preparation, teacher beliefs, teacher perceptions of content and pedagogical preparedness, instructional objectives and activities, and instructional resources.
