The Status of Secondary Science Education in the United States: Factors that Predict Practice

This paper presents findings from a large nationally representative survey of science teachers that provide answers to the following research questions:

  • What are the characteristics of the secondary science teaching force in terms of demographics, preparation, and perceptions of preparedness?

  • What factors predict secondary teachers’ classroom teaching practices in science?
