2000 NSSME: Status of Middle School Mathematics Teaching

This report describes the status of middle school mathematics instruction based on the responses of 634 middle school mathematics teachers across the United States. 

This status report of elementary school mathematics teaching is organized into major topical areas:

  • Characteristics of the teaching force in the United States;

  • Professional development of teachers, both needs and participation;

  • Classes offered;

  • Instruction, in terms of objectives, time spent, and class activities; and

  • Resources available for instruction.
