The 1977 National Survey of Science, Mathematics, and Social Studies Education looked at aspects of science, mathematics, and social studies education from a set of interest areas defined by the National Science Foundation:
- State and local guidelines on instruction;
- Course offerings;
- Federally funded curriculum materials;
- Textbook usage;
- Instructional techniques and classroom activities;
- Facilities and equipment;
- Teacher characteristics; and
- Developments in teaching.
