Report of the 1977 National Survey of Science, Mathematics, and Social Studies

The 1977 National Survey of Science, Mathematics, and Social Studies Education looked at aspects of science, mathematics, and social studies education from a set of interest areas defined by the National Science Foundation: 

  • State and local guidelines on instruction; 
  • Course offerings;
  • Federally funded curriculum materials; 
  • Textbook usage; 
  • Instructional techniques and classroom activities;
  • Facilities and equipment; 
  • Teacher characteristics; and 
  • Developments in teaching.
