Extended Student Events
Extended student events are longer events (e.g., summer camp or college course) designed to develop students’ ability to use AREN technologies so that they can engage with remote sensing data collection and analysis.
This survey is for extended student events where: students participants are in grades 3-12 in informal education settings (i.e., not as part of formal classroom instruction) OR college students regardless of education setting.
If all participating students are in grades K-2, please complete only the facilitator event form. If there is a mixture of ages, please administer the survey to only grades 3-12 or college participants.
We recommend that you read over the instructions prior to starting the administration. The survey can be administered as a paper survey or can be completed online using a computer, tablet, or phone. This short survey is estimated to take only a few minutes to complete.
General Guidelines:
- When administering the survey, please remind students what AREN-based activities they experienced.
- If available, NASA/AREN stickers may be used as an incentive for students to complete the survey.

Materials needed: computers or tablets for each participant, internet access, access to electricity.

- After the event, please complete the Facilitator Event Information form: https://tinyurl.com/ARENevent. This form is to be completed once by the event facilitator, not by event attendees.
Paper Version Instructions:
- Before the event, print as many copies of the survey as needed: Extended Student Event Survey.
- Leave time at the end of the event and hand out surveys to each student who participated in the event.
- Have a box of dark pens or pencils available for students to complete the survey.
- To ensure anonymity, please have a box available for people to place their completed surveys in rather than collecting surveys individually.
- After the event, scan the completed surveys to a PDF (please make sure that all pages are oriented the same way). Please email the scanned responses to ARENeval@horizon-research.com. If scanning to PDF is not feasible, you may return via mail (please email us to let us know). If multiple events are being done in a short time frame, please keep surveys for each event separate and denote which event each set of surveys is related to.
