Project Description

The goal of the SciAct Panels project is to systematically elicit and document the wisdom of practice developed by SciAct projects over previous iterations of funding. To generate and mobilize this knowledge, the project will apply a process developed by the U.S. NSF-funded Math and Science Knowledge Management and Dissemination project for systematically collecting and analyzing practice-based knowledge from expert practitioners (Miller & Pasley, 2012). The project will employ practitioner panels to gather knowledge gained about key strategies for effectively addressing SciAct mid-level objectives (MLOs), as well as challenges faced and methods for overcoming those challenges, from experienced SciAct community members including PIs and evaluators. Each of the panels will follow the same process: (1) identify a group of 6 to 8 expert practitioners from SciAct projects, (2) conduct iterative rounds of panel questions, (3) synthesize what is known into recommendations. Results will be made available from the panels available through a dedicated website. The website will allow users to access and learn from past efforts. The website will also include strategies to help projects adapt the lessons learned to their specific contexts/needs.
