Project Description
Amazon Future Engineers partnered with curriculum developers at OpenSciEd to lead development of a science curriculum that successfully integrates computer science/computational thinking (CS/CT) into the existing OpenSciEd Middle School science curriculum. The project aims to increase exposure to CS/CT by weaving it into compulsory science class (not electives). A handful of units from each middle school grade level set of materials, which were previously released to the public in early 2022, will be rewritten to include computer science content. The project aims to create a revised set of instructional materials that:
- integrate CS/CT coherently in the unit storyline;
- extend student supports for incremental sensemaking to CS/CT work;
- support a progression of learning; and
- support discourse and sensemaking.
Evaluation Services
HRI is leading data collection and analysis for grades 6, 7, and 8. of the OpenSciEd Middle School Computer Science field test.
