Project Description
The Roundtable on Systemic Change in Undergraduate STEM Education is an activity of the Board on Science Education (BOSE) and the Board on Higher Education and Workforce (BHEW) of the National Academia of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine (NASEM). The Roundtable was established in 2017 with seed funding from the Keck Foundation and continues with funding from the National Science Foundation. Members of the Roundtable hold a variety of positions within academia, government, professional societies, and industry. The focus of the Roundtable is on the future of undergraduate STEM education, and the goal is to coordinate and catalyze national efforts to improve undergraduate STEM education. The Roundtable engages in activities that allow members to (1) learn from each other’s efforts, (2) work more efficiently to address complex issues related to undergraduate STEM education, (3) make collective decisions about future policies and priorities, and (4) catalyze systemic change. The main activity of the Roundtable is holding meetings and workshops. These meetings are opportunities for the whole group to focus on a key theme or topic. Portions of some of these meetings are open to the public and allow attendees to gather input and perspectives from stakeholders. Beyond engaging stakeholders and the broader community with meetings, the Roundtable also serves as a forum for networking and partnership building, shares evidence-based guidance, and shares knowledge about on-going improvements efforts.

Evaluation Services
HRI’s evaluation includes giving feedback on the Roundtable’s meetings and products. HRI is also examining the impacts of Roundtable membership on members’ other work and their home institutions.
